Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency MEM04010 - Develop and manufacture wood patterns
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to develop and manufacture all types of solid, split and turned wood patterns and wood pattern component parts, including general engineering and master patterns. Patterns are constructed by laminating timber and timber composites, stave and lag, box or frame construction or any alternative method that minimises timber shrinkage, warp and achieves required. Solid patterns are set up on a regular or irregular joint. Turned patterns are manufactured using tools and machines appropriate for shaping wood. Where patterns are required to be set up on pattern plates then unit MEM04012 Assemble plated patterns should also be selected.Where the development and manufacture of marine propellers, conveyor screws and cast gears is required unit MEM04017 Develop and manufacture gear, conveyor screw and propeller patterns should also be selected.Where the selection and use of precision measurement is required unit MEM12003 Perform precision mechanical measurement should also be selected. This unit should not be selected when unit MEM18014 Manufacture press tools and gauges has already been selected. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 20

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Master patterns include one (1) or more of the following:

multiple contraction

skeleton

frame and strickle

wheels

pulleys

chain sheaves

impellors

Moulding/casting techniques includes:

a variety of sand moulding techniques and sand mediums

Timber/timber composites include one (1) or more of the following:

hardwood

softwood

laminates

plywood

veneers

bonded fibreboard

Joining and fixing includes one (1) or more of the following:

glued

screwed

nailed

stapled

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
